Burger King Nutella Sundaes: Taste Test

(SPOT.ph) In this heat, ice cream is no longer a dessert, it's become a necessity. Should you have ice cream with (or for) breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Probably not. But will you? Yes. Which is why when we saw that Burger King has launched a BK Sundae with Nutella—as in the hazelnut-cocoa spread gifted to us all by Italians—we we're very interested. Can this sate the cravings for both something ice-cold and chocolate-y? We give it a go.

How much is the BK Sundae with Nutella?

So first things first, how much will this treat cost us? We bought our food via GrabFood seeing as it was way too hot to head out. We couldn't find the treat at the normal Burger King branches, and had to select the BK Cafe, which does have fewer branches. A cup of the treat was priced at P95, a bit more than the usual sundae offerings. Meanwhile, a peek at the Burger King delivery page showed it at P86. 

Apart from the cold treat, we also saw that Burger King has decided to put Nutella on more than just their sundaes. They now also have their waffles with the cocoa spread! You can get a 2-pc. Waffles with Nutella for P135, or get a set with a drink for P204.

What does the BK Sundae with Nutella taste like?

Thankfully, the BK Cafe branch wasn't too far from us, so the sundaes were still pretty frozen by the time they arrived. They came in sturdy little cups with a covering that proudly said Nutella, and rightly so as the cuppa did look tempting. 

Now in this tropical heat, there's big debate about whether you keep your jar of Nutella outside (where it risks spoilage but stays smooth and spreadable) or in the ref (where it gets pretty solid and much harder to scoop out). And so we're sure you can predict how the Nutella fared on top of the cold soft serve. The chunks of chocolate sat solidly on top of the cold dairy, which, if you're used to soft fudge, may be a bit of a change. But if you're into the hard-shell type of ice-cream covering, then this is right up your alley. 

As with any sundae, the true foundation is in its soft serve. Buger King's is a little more on the grainy side of things, and light on the flavor. Don't expect a heavy, creamy cup, as this takes you on a lighter ride. That said, the richness of the Nutella really stands out with this soft serve as base, and there is quite a bit of it. We were able to portion it out well enough that each spoonful had chunks of the hazelnut-chocolate until the very last bite. 

So, is it worth it? At P95, this sundae does feel a little bit steep. If you're an absolute Nutella fan, then we say go for it. If you're just looking for a way to cool down, any of their other soft serves or iced drinks are sure to do the trick.
