(SPOT.ph) Cheesecake is one classic dessert that comes in different iterations—and at the height of Basque burnt cheesecake's fame during the pandemic we found ourselves absolutely swooning over the kind with an oozing, runny center Chef Chele Gonzalez's Cheesecake by Chele is known for. But now it looks like the aforementioned cheesecake has found itself some (friendly) competition, as Cheesecake by Chele introduces a new dessert we can't help but swoon over: meet the new Tarta de Queso. It launches today, October 11, and you have the chance to score special treats if you order this weekend!

Cheesecake by Chele's Tarta de Queso
Think of the Tarta de Queso as Basque burnt cheesecake (BBC)'s richer, dare we say sultrier sibling—and while they're both great in their own right they do have distinct differences.
Whereas the BBC has a decidedly burnt exterior, Tarta de Queso has a lighter toastiness on the top surface. Like the BBC, Tarta de Queso has a lush, oozing interior (it took a while to develop a recipe that would suit that, Gonzalez tells us)—but it also has more body and a creamier, more velvety feel on the tongue, as opposed to the BBC's airier, souffle-esque character. Tarta de Queso also has a more cheese-centric flavor profile thanks to their use of three cheeses—it goes surprisingly dang well with a glass of Chardonnay.
One seven-inch round of the Tarta de Queso goes for P1,300, and is available for delivery orders placed through their online form. You can also pick up whole rounds or try 'em by the slice at their physical outpost at The Podium, located right by Deli by Chele.
Don't just take our word for it though. It's best to try both yourself—and the best time to do that is this weekend as Cheesecake by Chele's got doing what they call the Mano a Mano duel from today, October 11 to Sunday, October 13. Visit Cheesecake by Chele's physical outpost at The podium and get a slice of the Tarta de Queso, and get a complementary slice of Traditional Burnt Basque Cheesecake! Plus, the first 50 customers to order a large Tarta de Queso online get a small Traditional Burnt Basque Cheesecake from Chef Chele and partner Teri.
Cheesecake by Chele, formerly Chef Chele's Kitchen, is a dessert venture by Spanish chef Chele Gonzalez (best known for his fine-dining spot, Gallery by Chele).
