The dining spot run by husband-and-wife team Jordy and May Navarra is listed at No. 42 on the 2025 edition of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, announced on March 25 with an awarding ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea. This also marks their sixth time in the row being named Best Restaurant in the Philippines. "The restaurant prioritises Filipino produce and people, fostering long-term relationships with local farmers and artisans," the publication writes.
Asia's 50 Best shines the spotlight especially bright on Toyo's hospitality game, as they bestowed upon the restaurant the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award 2025 in late February. This was voted for by the 350-plus members of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, who were each asked to name the one establishment that has provided the best hospitality experience in the last 18 months.
Dining at Toyo fulfills multiple avenues—from the stomach, given their modern Filipino plates that are as, well, delicious as they are eye-opening; to the mind, as they educate diners about Filipino heritage and traditions; to the heart, as the team, led by Chef Jordy Navarra, makes it a point to welcome and treat every diner like family. It seems William Drew, Director of Content for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, agrees. "At Toyo Eatery, each guest is warmly immersed in Filipino food culture—whether you are there to enjoy a tasting menu of reimagined cuisine, or the kamayan sharing plates, eaten by hand off banana leaves."
"Genuine hospitality is also evident in the personal touches from Jordy and May—from the seamless integration of interiors, floral and vegetable displays and wall art to local craftsmanship and, of course, in the way they educate diners about their food," Drew continues. "A hearty congratulations to the entire Toyo Eatery team."
This is the second in the series of pre-announced special awards leading up to the full Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 ceremony to be held in Seoul on March 25.
Toyo Eatery has been a recurring entry on the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants lists—at 24th in 2024, 42nd in 2023, and 94th in 2022, 49th in 2021, 44th in 2020, and 43rd in 2019. Aside from being named the Philippines' "Best Restaurant" for five years in a row (most recently last year), they were also given the One To Watch Award in 2018. All well-deserved, we say.
(UPDATE: March 25, 11:44 p.m.) The full list of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants for 2025 has been announced with Toyo ranking at No. 42. This has been added to the article.
