New Restaurant Alert: The Nook Cafe at Maginhawa Street, Quezon City
A Harry Potter-themed cafe! Accio Butterbeer!
The Nook Cafe
Maginhawa Street, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City
Open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
(SPOT.ph) This gem of a coffee shop is tucked away in Quezon City's foodie central, Maginhawa Street. To the unsuspecting eye, The Nook Cafe seems ordinary—like the barrier between Platform 9 and 10 at London's King's Cross Station—but walk inside. That's where the magic happens.
You see, The Nook Cafe throws back to Harry Potter. The better part is that you don't need an owl-sent letter to go.
Novice entrepreneur and self-proclaimed dork Nicole Guanio fits in very well with the hipster crowd that frequents the neighborhood and her preferred magical theme lines up perfectly to make her dream cafe come to fruition.
Would it be redundant to read Harry Potter here?
Never underestimate the power of chocolate cake.
So cozy...Common Room?
The subtle details that offer a bit of magic.
An announcement out front reads "Harry Potter-inspired drink: Butter Beer"—a sign just as effective as accio to summon us in. There are few other restaurants in Metro Manila that offer the magical mixture, but there's something exciting—magical, maybe?—about The Nook's frothy version: a perfect mix of caramel and butterscotch in just the right dosage to tease and satisfy your taste buds. Never mind that they don't spell it the way J. K. Rowling does.
Unlike most coffee places, The Nook serves some small plates that will tide you over for the next hour or two (perfect snacks to keep you hanging around!). The Cheese Potato Wedges (P95) are hand cut right in the kitchen and peppered with herbs and Parmesan cheese, while the Bacon Wrapped Chicken (P140) is exactly what the menu lets on—four pieces of gorgeous crisp bacon enveloping a juicy chicken chunk, dipped in raw honey. Think honey-cured bacon, but fresh and bright. The thick amber syrup pairs very well with the saltiness of the pork.
Coffee and cake are all you really need.

GoyazillaSaur because a dinosaur is not enough.
Their GoyazillaSaur (P75) will do wonders for those recovering from a run-in with Dementors (read: when you're just really down in the dumps). The Nook uses local chocolates to come up with this halo-halo-like beverage. But if you prefer a cuppa, the Matcha Hazelnut (P100) is a smooth blend that's sure to satisfy.
There's no need for the letter. Grab your broomstick or take the next Hogwarts Express and mosey along Maginhawa for your your taste of Harry Potter.
