Rustic Mornings Says Goodbye to a Breakfast Favorite

It's to save tawilis.

(SPOT.ph) If you've been eating tawilis mindlessly, here's a wake-up call for you: According to the Switzerland-based International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Red List, the freshwater sardine endemic to the Taal Lake is now considered endangered. Tawilis is found nowhere else, so the call to preserve its remaining population and allow them to flourish is urgent.

Rustic Mornings will be retiring their Crispy Tawilis plate starting today, January 28.

Many measures are being taken to preserve the sardine, like a three-month fishing ban at the Taal Lake proposed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Also doing their part is breakfast place  Rustic Mornings by Isabelo, who has announced on their official Facebook page that starting today, January 28, they will no longer be serving their Crispy Tawilis. The best-selling plate, with crispy tawilis, fried egg, and their signature garlic rice will be missed but there are still a lot more on the menu to try out in the meantime. For one, their Crispy Plain Waffle made it to the eighth spot of SPOT's top 10 waffle list for super thick yet fluffy waffles.
