(SPOT.ph) We're sure carb devotees around the world would agree that croissants are a bread like no other. It's got roots in Austria but is now a distinctly French baked treat that's a staple at boulangeries, characterized by its signature crescent-shaped form, flaky interior, and drool-inducing buttery profile. We recently spotted a truly swoon-worthy version that you can order online if you're in Cebu: Check out San Antonio Village-based 5G Coffee House and their amazing croissants!
These croissants are a must when in Cebu:
5G Coffee House's croissants wow from the inside and out—it's got a golden-brown exterior with a subtle sheen, and proper honeycomb interior with defined air pockets in a roughly-circular formation. Take a whiff and you get the telltale fragrance of lush, creamy butter. This is dreamy stuff, folks.
Aside from the Classic Croissant (P110), 5G Coffee House also makes other croissant variations. They've got classics like the Pain Au Chocolat (P120) and Almond Croissant (P160), but it's also worth checking out their more playful numbers. Some are fruity, like the Strawberry Croissant (P200) and Banana Croissant (P160); some are devilish, like the Almond Pain au Choc (P170) and Double Choc Croissant (P180); and then there's the earthy Matcha Croissant (P200).
Amazingly, 5G Coffee House's Ricardo Guinto is self-taught in the art of croissant-making. "It’s really just a lot of YouTube and hundreds, close to a thousands, of failed croissants," he shares in an interview with SPOT.ph. The almost two-year-old coffee shop is primarily known for its specialty brews, but Guinto realized one day that he needed something to pair with their coffee. "So I was like, oh why don’t we try doing croissants?" After numerous trials, they were able to come up with the excellent version they have now—which is very well a testament to power of practice and learning from mistakes to get the best results.
Though 5G Coffee House is currently closed for dine-in due to the quarantine, you can still order their croissants online; simply send them a message on social media. They're currently operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and they deliver within Metro Cebu thru Happy Move.
