(SPOT.ph) Filipino chefs are full of talent—not only those in the Philippines, but also those showcasing their kitchen skills in restaurants abroad. And it's only right that their restaurants get the recognition they deserve! In the past couple of months, a number of Filipino-American owned restaurants have received accolades from prestigious institutions—among them Kasama in Chicago and Soseki Modern Omakase in Florida, who received the highly coveted stars from no less than the Michelin Guide. Another establishment with Filipino-American chef-owners at the helm joins the list: give a warm round of applause to Orlando, Florida omakase spot Kadence, which was recently awarded a Michelin star!

Another Filipino-American owned restaurant earns a Michelin star:
The Michelin Guide awards Kadence one star (short for "High quality cooking, worth a stop!") praising the "free-spirited" way they serve while still keeping classic Japanese methods in mind. The eight-seater omakase spot serves everything form hot dishes to sashimi to sake, incorporating more contemporary elements such as Burgundian truffle while having the balance of flavors in mind.
At the helm of the restaurant are Mark Berdin (who is trained in Japanese cooking), Jennifer Bañagale (trained in pastry), and Lordfer Lalicon (trained in French and Italian cooking)—all of whom studied at the University of Florida, moved to New York and eventually London, and worked in Michelin-starred spots in the said area. The three also opened a sushi stand called Kappo in 2014.
