(SPOT.ph) Shakey's Philippines has responded to a video post by broadcast journalist Julius Babao of one of their pizzas with a very unexpected "ingredient." The now viral video was originally posted on Sunday, August 7, with the fast-food chain releasing an official statement on Monday, August 8. Now, just what kind of unexpected ingredient are we talking about, you ask? Plastic. Yup. Confused by all the buzz? We lay it down for you below.

Shakey's Philippines responds to Julius Babao's video showing plastic in pizza
Shakey's thanked Babao for "calling our attention to an oversight," according to the statement. They acknowledged the mistake and explained that "Our freshly made pizza crusts are placed with a food-grade glassine sheet that separates pizza crusts and prevents them from sticking when stacked." It seems a team member had forgotten to remove said sheet during the process.
"We are currently undergoing a thorough and fair investigation to understand exactly what transpired in this isolated and unique incident," they wrote. Meanwhile, Babao's order was replaced in accordance to the restaurant's standard procedures.
Shakey's posted their statement to their Facebook page and, as of writing, now has around 2,200 reacts and 170 shares.
Babao posted a two-minute or so clip to his verified Facebook page showing the pizza with what was clearly a film of plastic between the dough and the toppings. Thankfully, it seems the plastic held through the baking process and was identified by Babao before anyone could take a bite. The journalist also showed the other boxes of pizza included in their delivery order, the rest of which did not have the plastic sheet.
The journalist tagged Shakey's in his post. The fast-food chain commented on the post thanking and apologizing to Babao.
Babao's short clip has around 245,000 views as of writing. The slew of comments also came in, with some pointing out that the journalist didn't have to use his larger-than-average platform to call out the fast-food chain.
