Meet the Filipino-British Singer Opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour

(SPOT.ph) While Filipinos are on the pounce for an announcement of the Manila leg of the Eras tour, one Filipina has just had a live performance dedicated to her by none other than Taylor Swift herself. 

Swifties would know that there’s always a new surprise at every Eras Tour concert. One night it’s “Mirrorball,” on another it’s “State of Grace.” For her show in Las Vegas on March 24 at the Allegiant Stadium, Swift granted the wish of Filipino-British artist Beabadoobee.

Beabadoobee is Swift’s opening act for late March and almost the whole of April for the Eras tour in selected U.S. states like Nevada, Texas, Florida, and Georgia.

“I do get ideas from places,” Swift said. “I actually saw an interview that Beabadoobee did—who is our amazing, brilliant opening act tonight—and they were saying, ‘Oh, you’re going on The Eras Tour. What song might you want to hear?’ She was like, ‘I grew up listening to songs on her first album.’ She named a specific song. So I figured, you know what? For her first show with us, I’ll play the specific song that she said she would want to hear. So, this is a song I actually wrote for my ninth-grade talent show. It’s called ‘Our Song.’”

“I will never recover from this. [Second] Vegas show tn w the queen herself @taylorswift,” Beabadoobee said in an Instagram post after that fateful night. Besides Beabadoobee, other opening acts for the Eras tour include Paramore, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, Girl in Red, MUNA, Gayle, Gracie Abrams and OWENN.

We’re well aware of the hype surrounding the Eras tour, but who is Beabadoobee?

Who is Filipino-British singer and songwriter Beabadobee?

Born in the year 2000 in Iloilo and raised in London, Beatrice Kristi Laus a.k.a. Beabadoobee, became known for her bedroom pop and space rock songs. You’re sure to have heard of her sleepy hit “Deathbed (Coffee for Your Head)” on TikTok everywhere in early 2020, a track that now has almost 1.5 billion streams.

As of writing, she has over 16 million monthly listeners on Spotify—200,000 of whom are her supporters in Quezon City. Just before hopping on tour with Swift, Beabadoobee was in the middle of her European tour in support of her 2022 album Beatopia.

Although Beabadoobee has lived in the U.K. since she was three, she grew up on OPM classics like Apo Hiking Society and Eraserheads. The music video for her latest single “Glue Song” was even filmed in her hometown, showing glimpses of her provincial life in jeepneys, green fields, basketball courts, and in family gatherings. 

It’s not her first time opening for big names in the music industry, either. Beabadoobee also served as a supporting act for Clairo in 2019, The 1975 in 2020, and Halsey in 2022—and she’s only going up from here.
