(SPOT.ph) “What ifs?” are typically the most frequently asked genre of existential life questions one asks themselves as they grow older. One second you can go from living the life of quirky teen rom-coms to a life of La La Land epilogues and “In another life, I would have really liked to do laundry and taxes with you.” But such is the way life goes, which is why movies and art of this nature are so important to check out (and cry to) every once in a while.

The film follows Nora (Russian Doll and The Morning Show’s Greta Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), who grew up together in South Korea but grew apart when Nora’s family moved to Toronto. 24 years later, they reconnect as adults, which leads them both to contemplate the lives they’ve lived and their relationship together.

The feature film directorial debut of Director Celine Song, Past Lives premiered in 2023’s Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, as word of mouth have suggested that the film falls in the same vein of grounded and intimate romance/life drama films as that of Richard Linklater (Before trilogy) and Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story).

It definitely sounds like the film to catch in the sanctity of the cinema rather than while just chilling at home.

If the micro-cinema is too far, you can also catch the movie in major cinemas in the Philippines come August 30. TBA Studios, which is also in charge of the micro-cinema, announced that it will also be screening in 100 cinemas nationwide.
