(SPOT.ph) There's no questioning that 2018 was a big year for acclaimed director Erik Matti. It was, after all, the year that the highly anticipated BuyBust opened in theaters—and became available on Netflix, too! After five years of working on the new adaptation of Darna starring Liza Soberano, the auteur left the project due to creative differences. But that just means he has more time to work on his other films, especially since he has four new ones coming out in 2019—including the much-awaited sequel for action thriller On The Job.
After having Anne Curtis as his leading lady in BuyBust, Matti is working with more big names in the industry. Sharon Cuneta and John Arcilla will topbill Kwaresma, Judy Ann Santos will star in The Passover, and Jennylyn Mercado is the lead in Keepers. Pinoy movie fans will also see Dennis Trillo, Christopher De Leon, John Arcilla, Lotlot De Leon, and more in On the Job 2. Matti's new films will be produced by Reality Entertainment, the studio he co-owns with Dondon Monteverde.
Aside from Matti's movies, Reality Entertainment is also producing Miko Livelo's 'Tol, which stars Joross Gamboa, Ketchup Eusebio, Arjo Atayde, and Jessy Mendiola and opens on January 30. There's also Jade Castro's Ultimate Oppa starring Bela Padilla, Jet Leyco's Second Coming starring Jodi Sta. Maria and Marvin Agustin, The Happy Times starring basketball-player-slash-actor Ricci Rivero, and Kenneth Mandrilla's Showboys starring MMA fighter Brandon Vera. The yet-to-be-titled movies include a thriller starring Khalil Ramos and a comedy directed by Joel Ferrer.
We're only a few days into 2019 but by the looks of it, we're already in for an exciting year for Pinoy movies.
