Dingdong Dantes Is Starring in the Pinoy Remake of Descendants of the Sun
He's playing Big Boss!
(SPOT.ph) It was announced in January that GMA will finally be airing their own take on the popular K-Drama series, Descendants of the Sun in 2019. Multiple names, like Alden Richards', have been brought up on who will be starring in the remake. But now it's official: Dingdong Dantes will be playing Captain Yoo Si-Jin a.k.a. Big Boss. The role was played by Song Joong-ki in the original version of the show.
The announcement was made right after his contact renewal with GMA. Dantes says he's more than ready for his new role. "More than very physically prepared, I’m emotionally, spiritually prepared, lalo na napaka-espesyal nito," he says.
According to the report, he enjoyed watching the original series and loved the story between Big Boss, the elite leader of a military team and Doctor Kang Mo-yeon a.k.a. Beauty, a volunteer doctor.
There's no word yet on who will play Doctor Kang Mo-yeon. But it's worth noting that she was played by Song Joong-ki's wife in real life, Song Hye-kyo. Who knows, this might just be the long-awaited reunion project of Dantes and his wife Marian Rivera—who just welcomed their newly born son, Ziggy.
In a previous report by Pep, GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable says that the remake will be faithful to the original story while adding some Pinoy elements. She says that they were allowed by KBS Drama Production to add their own spin to the show. "We are writing it. Medyo mahaba-habang proseso yan dahil we coordinate with the owners of the franchise, e. The beauty of it is, although we have to be faithful to the soul of the story, they're allowing a little leeway to "Filipinize," para mas naka-akma sa Philippine culture." She continues, "Pero sinusulat pa lang. It may look simple but there are so many big scenes in the show."
