(SPOT.ph) After popular and widely well-received survival films like Cast Away, 127 Hours, Gravity, and The Revenant in the past couple of decades, it's crazy to look around the state of man-versus-environment survival movies nowadays, as there are hardly any of note. Perhaps it's because the recent COVID-19 pandemic—which took inspiration from the popular virus movie Contagion—has forced us all into survival mode in our everyday, real lives.
However, as the cycle of streaming content keeps on spinning, we've been brought back to experience the fearsome thrills and rays of hope brought about tales of humanity overcoming the impossible, and this time with a Netflix series based off the miraculous Thai soccer team cave rescue in 2018.

Here's what we know about the Netflix limited series Thai Cave Rescue:
Netflix has just confirmed the release date of their limited series Thai Cave Rescue, based on true events that occurred in 2018. The six-episode limited series will drop on the streaming platform on September 22. Along with confirming the release date, Netflix also dropped new promo images and a poster for the series.
The series dramatizes the events of the real-life Tham Luang cave rescue in 2018. In June of that year, 12 members of a junior Thai soccer team known as the Wild Boars as well as their assistant coach went missing while exploring a cave complex beneath the mountain range border of Thailand and Myanmar.
The soccer team was missing for over a week before being located in the cave, however, heavy rains caused strong currents and water levels to rise, which blocked off initial attempts at their rescue.
The rescue efforts that took place over the week following their discovery were composed of almost 10,000 rescue workers, divers, police officers, soldiers, government officials, and other responders, all from countries around the world.
Ultimately, two Navy SEALs from Thailand died, in separate instances, because of the rescue attempts. The whole soccer team miraculously made it out alive.
The limited series is directed by The Book of Boba Fett director Kevin Tancharoen and Bad Genius director Nattawut Poonpiriya.
Thai Cave Rescue drops on Netflix on September 22.
