(SPOT.ph) Not only is the slate of blockbusters regularly rolling out in Philippine cinemas all year-round now, the month of August also saw the return of film festivals with in-person screenings for the first time since before the pandemic. From the Philippines' own Cinemalaya highlighting independent films to the Korean Film Festival highlighting foreign pictures, it's been made clear that the moviegoing scene is finally heading back into the depths it used to reach.

The upward trend looks to continue into the month of October, with the return of yet another film festival, Pelicula, with in-person screenings over at Shangri-La Plaza mall, 'Cine Adarna at UP Diliman's film center, and Instituto de Cervantes de Manila in Intramuros.

Here's the official Pelicula Spanish Film Festival 2022 line-up:

From October 5 to 16, the Pelicula Spanish Film Festival will be screening Spanish and Latin-American films at Shangri-La Plaza in Ortigas, UP Diliman's Cine Adarna in Quezon City, and the Instituto de Cervantes de Manila.

The lineup of films that include comedies, documentaries, and classic films from Spain has been announced. Exact times have not been released as of writing.

Five quirky comedies comprise most of the festival, as the lineup features the 2021 Spanish-Argentinian film Competencia official (Official Competition), starring Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas; El buen patrón (The Good Boss), starring Javier Bardem; the road-trip film Con quién viajas (Carpoolers); the Panemenian rom-com Algo azul ("Something Blue"); and El test, wherein a group of people must decide whether to get €100,000 right away or wait ten years and receive a million.

If you fancy yourself part of the more serious crowd, the historical drama El olvido que seremos (Memories of My Father), the forgiveness tale Maixabel, and the thriller La hija  (The Daughter) should all be up your alley. The film festival also has a selection of documentaries, including the discovery feature Jinetes del Paraíso (Horsemen of Paradise) and A las mujeres de España. María Lejárraga—a mouthful, yes, but the documentary itself clocks in below an hour and a half.

The aforementioned films are all from 2020 and later, but the film festival also has a curated slate of 20th-century Spanish films bound to appeal to all film buffs and cinephiles in the Philippines. These classic Spanish films include 1951's Esa pareja feliz (That Happy Couple), 1953's Muerte de un ciclista (Death of a Cyclist), 1979's Mamá cumple cien años (Mama Turns 100), and 1983's El sur.
