(SPOT.ph) If there are any certainties in this world besides death and taxes, it'd be Marvel Studios having a completely mapped-out slate of movies and series, with strategically chosen release dates dotting out the next decade of our lives. We don't even know what food we'll have to eat for dinner later tonight, and yet Marvel can already confidently announce what project they'll be investing millions of dollars into in five years' time. Oh, to have that foresight.
Even with their most recent slate announcement at San Diego Comic-Con this past July, which included two new Avengers films (among many new, standalone superhero projects), the Marvel hype train is showing no signs of slowing down, as they've just announced another slate of upcoming titles over the weekend's D23 convention. Let's just say: Disney+ can't start streaming in the Philippines soon enough.

Here are the major announcements from Marvel Studios' panel at the D23 expo:
Werewolf by Night (Halloween Special)
Release date: October 7, 2022
Marvel Studios' first venture into the medium of holiday specials is what's next up on the slate. The Halloween special Werewolf by Night focuses on what looks to be an IRL game of "Werewolf," only there's an actual werewolf hidden among the ensemble of supernatural Marvel characters (yup, that is the Man-Thing you saw in the trailer). Directed by Michael Giacchino, the famous Hollywood composer behind the Spider-Man: Home trilogy, The Batman, Planet of the Apes, and some Pixar films, the black-and-white horror picture looks like it has some delicious tricks and treats up its sleeve.
Secret Invasion (Series)
The secret invasion is about to begin, or rather, has it been going on for years now? This is a question posed by the first trailer of Marvel's next Disney+ series, the political thriller-inspired Secret Invasion. While the trailer only gives teases at the shapeshifting threat, we do get a better understanding of how expansive this cast is, with Don Cheadle, Emilia Clarke, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Olivia Colman, and a dozen Kingsley Ben-Adir's seemingly taking on significant roles in the series. However, we're not kidding anyone, we're mostly going to watch for more back and forth between Nick Fury and Talos.
Captain America: New World Order (Movie)
Release date: May 3, 2024
Who will be the first bad guy Anthony Mackie's Captain America faces off against on the big screen? Well, shockingly, it'll be Hulk's nemesis from the comics, the Leader. Exposed to the same Gamma rays as the Hulk, the Leader is as intelligent as the Hulk is strong, so putting him up against the likes of Captain America is an interesting direction to take. The announcement confirmed that Tim Blake Nelson will reprise the role of Samuel Sterns, who was last seen beginning to transform into the Leader during the climactic battle of The Incredible Hulk in 2008.
Additionally, the former Super Soldier Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) and the future Falcon Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) are both returning after being introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series.
Thunderbolts (Movie)
Release date: July 26, 2024
The roster of the anti-hero group known as the Thunderbolts has finally been revealed. The film's team will feature the characters Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Interestingly, the roster leaves out the heavily speculated Baron Zemo and Abomination, in favor for a seemingly more covert ops-focused group. However, fingers crossed that we still get to see the two former villains (and Brett Goldstein's Hercules) show up to add even more anti-hero mischief.
Fantastic Four (Movie)
Release date: November 8, 2024
Hate to break it to you, but that photo of the "announced" Fantastic Four cast was fake. We mean, Henry Cavill as Doctor Doom and John Boyega as the Human Torch? Always was too good to be true. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that the cast wouldn't be revealed at the panel, but he did confirm that WandaVision director Matt Shakman would be directing the film.
Armor Wars (Series)
Finally, we get confirmation that the Armor Wars Disney+ series is still coming down the line, most likely in Phase Six, as it was strangely left off the Comic-Con slate, despite already having been announced previously. The series will be led by Cheadle as Rhodey, a.k.a. War Machine, as he deals with the conflicts that arise when Tony Stark's Iron Man tech falls into the wrong hands... again.
