(SPOT.ph) It's real: Netflix has a new subscription option that comes with ads. The streaming giant rolls out the "Basic with Ads" subscription format in November to 12 countries. Quick answers: Nope, the Philippines is not affected (so far), and don't worry, if you do happen to be in one of the territories where it's available, your current plan (i.g. the non-ad carrying Mobile, Basic, Standard, or Premium formats) will not be affected.

Everything we know so far about the new subscription format for Netflix with ads
The "Basic with Ads" will roll out in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S. It will launch on November 1 in Canada priced at $5.99 monthly; November 3 in the U.S. and the U.K. at $6.99 and £4.99 respectively. In the U.S., that's around $3 cheaper than the cheapest option without ads.
Netflix called this subscription format their "lower priced ad-supported plan" in a release. With this format, viewers can get video quality at up to 720p/HD; downloading titles will not be available; and the biggest change is an average of four to five minutes of adverts per hour.
Ads will play before and during whatever title it is you're watching, if you are subscribed to this new plan. Netflix said that ads will 15 or 30 seconds in length "at launch."
"We are looking at a very light ad load with no more than four to five minutes of ads per hour, and including some very tight frequency caps so that members don't see the same ad repeatedly," said Netflix chief operating officer Greg Peters in an AFP report.
