P-Noy reveals "marketing ploy" linking him to popular singer to drum up publicity during his Presidential campaign
(SPOT.ph) A video of President Noynoy Aquino's speech during the 75th anniversary celebration of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) last April where he revealed a ploy concocted by Budget Secretary Florencio "Butch" Abad to drum up his candidacy, including amping up his love life, has been circulating in online forums and social networking sites, reports Manila Bulletin.
According to the report entitled "P-Noy’s love interests: Real, fiction?", the President recalled in his speech how Abad, then his campaign manager, came up with "a ’marketing ploy’ for him to become the talk of the town in spite of meager funds and described an incident involving a popular singer whom he did not name. "...we were in the news for eight months. I was wondering why the issue dragged on even if I only met this singer on one occasion," Aquino said. "(The media) even wrote that I was not missing any concert of this singer and that we were having a relationship. But then I was wondering where they were getting these pieces of information?" Apparently the budget secretary was sending the singer flowers without Aquino knowing. The Manila Bulletin reported him as saying laughingly, "’Sabi ko, Butch, ang galing mong gumawa ng fiction dapat naging manunulat ka na lang (I told Butch that he should have been a fiction writer instead).’"
Since becoming President, however, Aquino has complained about the lack of privacy, especially when it comes to his love life. In earlier reports, he said he could hardly go out on dates without being noticed. Aquino, whose romantic pursuits have closely been followed by the media, has been linked to at least four women in the past year-Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad, stylist Liz Uy, stockbroker Len Lopez, and teacher Bunny Calica.
