Test Your Online Safety Skills With These Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Activities, Webtoons
A Meta initiative to protect teens (and teens at heart) online.
(SPOT.ph) Who hasn't uploaded a selfie or checked in to different locations using social media? In the digital age when we are prone to oversharing and fraudsters are getting smarter, how do we keep ourselves safe? To educate teens (and even adults, especially adults) on how to protect their privacy and their sensitive data, Meta on Thursday, February 16 unveiled a series of webtoons and interactive activities, just in time for Safer Internet Month.
The project covers the topics of data privacy, data protection, and age-appropriate interactions in partnership with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) and the Child Rights Network (CRN).

"The webtoons are in a format that we wanted young people to be able to understand, also older people who are able to read this and really go beyond black and white and go to an area where it's imporant to understand the differences: what is inappropriate interaction? What are interactions that perhaps feel unsafe? What do we do on those circumstances?" said Malina Enlund, Meta Safety Policy Manager for APAC and child protection expert, during the panel discussion.
Meta consulted with safety experts and Filipino teens from different socio-economic backgrounds across the country to create these inclusive, teen-friendly educational tools, said Enlund. These webtoons, which you may access via the Digital Tayo website, will also be translated in different languages like Filipino and Cebuano.
Joining Meta are Gen Z content creators Janina Vela and Hannah Pangilinan, who expressed support for the webtoons initiative.
"i just love how there is a safe space for people on social media, and there are also ways on how to create that safe space nowadays," said Pangilinan.
"Meta created these webtoons for teachers, parents, NGOs in a way that parents, teachers, guidance counselors are now empowered to say 'I'm right here and this is how we're going to do it together'," said Vela.
