What is the SSS Salary Loan?
It is a cash loan granted to an employed, currently-paying self-employed, or voluntary member, with the goal to meet the member's short-term financial needs.
SSS offers both one-month and two-month salary loans to eligible members.
For a one-month salary loan from the SSS, the potential loan is calculated based on the average of your most recent 12 Monthly Salary Credits (MSCs). However, this amount will not exceed the sum you have applied for. The potential loan amount for a two-month salary loan is twice the average of your latest 12 MSCs. Should this calculation result in a figure that surpasses the next higher MSC or the applied amount, the lower of these two figures will be granted.
The loan is payable within two years in 24 monthly installments, with an annual interest rate and a penalty for late payments. Payment deadlines are specific to each member.
Do note that a service fee of 1% of the amount will be charged and deducted from the loan proceeds.
Loan renewal is also an option to borrowers who have paid off at least half of the original principal and have reached or surpassed half of the repayment period.
Who can sign up for the SSS Salary Loan?
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for an SSS salary loan:
- Must be an SSS member with at least 36 monthly contributions for a one-month loan and at least 72 monthly contributions for a two-month loan, six of which should be within the last 12 months before the application
- Must be under 65 years old at the time of application
- Must not have been granted final benefits like total permanent disability, retirement, or death
- Must not have any outstanding delinquency in previous loans
What to prepare for the SSS Salary Loan application:
Proper preparation is crucial for a smooth application process, the most important of which is ensuring the accuracy of information in your SSS record.
To do this, register or log in to your account on the SSS Member Portal. Double-check your employment status, personal details, and contributions as discrepancies in your records can cause delays. This platform will also be your primary tool for checking your application status.
Although the SSS salary loan application is now conducted online, having your documents ready can speed up the process. Prepare your SSS ID or any two valid IDs, your employer's SSS ID (for employed members), and your bank account details for the loan disbursement.
How to apply for a salary loan on the SSS Portal:
The SSS has streamlined the salary loan application process through its online portal, making it so much more convenient for members to apply. Here's a step-by-step guide:
- Log in to the SSS Member Portal
- Navigate to the E-Services menu to find the Apply for Salary Loan option
- Fill out the Member Loan Application
- Submit your application. You should receive a confirmation message or email regarding your application status within 60 seconds of submission
You can also opt to have a representative apply for the loan on your behalf. They will need to bring the following documents:
- Member-borrower's duly accomplished Member Loan Application
- Member-borrower's SS card or any two valid IDs both with signature and at least one with photo
- Authorized Representative's SS card or any two valid IDs both with signature and at least one with photo
- Letter of Authority (LOA) signed by both the member-borrower and member-borrower's authorized representative
Once your application is submitted, the waiting game begins. Approval times can vary, but with everything in order, you can expect the process to take from two weeks to a month—at least according to the SSS.
It's also best to monitor your application status through the SSS Member Portal. Once approved, the loan amount will be credited to your registered bank account with a text message from SSS confirming this within three to five working days.
How to apply for an SSS salary loan in person:
Gather all necessary documents before heading to the nearest SSS branch from your place of residence or business. This includes your Member Loan Application Form, SSS digitized ID or E-6 acknowledgment stub, and any two valid IDs, one of which must have a recent photo.
On the other hand, OFW members can file a salary loan application at SSS Foreign Representative Offices or authorize a relative in the Philippines to file it in a local branch as long as documents issued in other countries are duly authenticated or certified by the Philippine Consulate Embassy.
