(SPOT.ph) The Land Transportation Office has finally updated the LTMS portal to also accommodate private vehicle registration renewals, a process that will ideally take less than 10 minutes to complete once you’re in. The new service was launched right on Valentine's Day, February 14.
However, the renewal process isn't as simple and straightforward as logging into the LTMS portal account. You will still have to do the necessary checks before your car registration can even be up for renewal, which means physically lining up to collect requirements from other offices.

Skipping the line is only for LTO
According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief and assistant secretary Jose Arturo Tugade, the online process will only apply to those who have a registered portal account, and whose last renewal transaction was also completed using the LTMS.
Take note that the you should be the registered owner of the vehicle under the Certificate of Registration, otherwise you won’t be able to access the LTMS portal at all.
You will also need to secure a Certificate of Coverage from a selected insurance provider and the vehicle should pass a roadworthiness test from a Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center. Tugade said both documents will be electronically sent to the LTMS, ready for when you log in.
Here are other important reminders to keep in mind:
Nearing the end of the lengthy six-step process is the payment for your renewal application. You can pay via the LTMS portal, after which an official receipt will be generated and sent to your email.
During the lockdowns, the Land Transportation Office had set up an online platform to shift some of its services, like license renewals and car registrations, through what is now known as the Land Transportation Management System portal. This way, registrants could complete the first few steps of certain processes without having to physically show up on location.
