Pasig City Turns Another Road Car-Free for Its People's Streets Project

(SPOT.ph) Another Pasig City road joins the list of pedestrian-friendly places under the People’s Street project.
Starting February 19, the whole stretch of Kapasigan Boulevard, Industria Extension in Barangay Kapasigan will be closed to cars from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Sunday to make way for pedestrians, bicycles, and other light mobility vehicles. It will also be a no parking area for the duration of those 12 hours.

The People’s Street project started in 2021 with the help of Pasig City Transport Development and Management Office, allowing pedestrians and bikers to maximize the roads without having to worry about car-related accidents. It’s a breath of fresh air in an otherwise car-centric Philippines.
With the latest addition, there are now a total of eight People’s Streets in Pasig City:
- Emerald Avenue in Barangay San Antonio (Saturday, 6 a.m. to Sunday, 6 p.m.)
- East Bank Road in Barangay Manggahan (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Caruncho Avenue in Barangay San Nicolas (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Kapasigan Boulevard in Barangay Kapasigan (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- MH Del Pilar in Barangay Sto. Tomas (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
- Lopez Jaena Street in Barangay Sumilang (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Oranbo Drive in Barangay Oranbo (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Kamagong Street in Barangay Bagong Ilog (Sunday, 6 a.m. to 12 p.m)
Apart from People’s Streets, Pasig City is also known for pioneering bicycle-friendly initiatives, from opening protected bike lanes to offering free bike lessons. The city was also the first to require private establishments to install bicycle parking racks within premises as early as 2011.
In all this, the Pasig City government is also reminding its citizens to still follow health protocol at all times.
