(SPOT.ph) Hundreds of students and workers have just lost a reliable travel option as DNS Transport Group announced it is temporarily halting its point-to-point (P2P) bus operations between Katipunan and Makati Central Business District (CBD) starting November 22, 2024.

In a public advisory, DNS explained that the P2P route had been operating as a “missionary route,” which is being heavily subsidized by its other business units. Although the company wasn’t explicit about the reason for the suspension, it’s easy to imagine that rising costs and operational challenges made the service unsustainable.

“Our P2P route has always been more than just a business to us—it was a service of heart. We saw the importance it brought to the small market communities in Katipunan, Quezon City, and Makati CBD,” DNS Transport Group said.

“We have loved being part of your daily journeys, whether it was getting you to work, school, or home... But as much as we want to continue, it has become too hard for us to keep this route going, and with a heavy heart, we have to take a break for now.”

DNS Transport Group is hopeful it can serve the route again in the future.

Commuters mourn the loss of the Katipunan-Makati route

Commuters were quick to express their disappointment over the sudden suspension of DNS’s P2P bus operations. Many shared how the service had been a stress-free way to get to work or school.

“Please do come back soon. A slight fare increase is ok in exchange for the convenience we get in our daily commute to work,” one user commented.

Frustration also flared up over the timing of the announcement, made just a day before the route was halted. Passengers criticized the short notice, saying it left them scrambling for alternative transportation.

“While I respect the decision, as a regular customer, I can say that this decision of putting out the announcement the night before the actual service stoppage is done in bad taste,” another user commented.

DNS has long been a key player in Metro Manila’s transport network, offering P2P buses with direct routes connecting residential and business hubs like UP Town Center, Eastwood City, and Makati CBD. The Katipunan-Makati route in particular has been operational since 2017.

For now, commuters are left to explore other ways to get around, such as taking the LRT-2 Katipunan Station and transferring to MRT-3 Cubao to get to the MRT-3 Ayala Station. Another option is to take a modern jeep from Katipunan to Cubao, then take the EDSA Carousel Bus (Southbound) to One Ayala.
