UPDATED: You Can Explore Intramuros With These Free Scooters
Here's a new way to explore the Walled City.
(SPOT.ph) It's no secret that Manila is rich in history; a simple stroll around the area is enough to convince you. Except, of course, walking takes way too much energy in Manila heat. You could always take a car, but need we remind you of traffic and parking problems? Well, the Department of Tourism, the Intramuros Administration, and Grab Philippines recently teamed up for a fun way to tour Intramuros. At least 30 units of GrabWheels personal mobility devices (a.k.a. scooters) will be made available at the Walled City. Plus, they're free to use until December 2019!
You can grab a scooter anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., from Tuesdays to Sundays. Just be considerate of others and return it after two hours! Also, be sure to present a valid government of school ID.
"We will review its reception and determine the necessary mechanisms and setting of fees to make it sustainable," said Attorney Guiller Asido of the Intramuros Administration (IA) during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between IA and Grab.
The joint project was made with sustainability in mind, and not just logistically either. "Sustainability demands that our planning and resources management must be responsible," said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat. "This partnership, hopefully, will raise their awareness about environmental issues and allow [people] to experience first-hand these sustainable tourism practices," she added. Here's hoping more areas follow suit!
UPDATED (September 20): The article has been updated following the announcement of the official schedule for GrabWheels in a Facebook post by the Intramuros Administration.
