Get Ready for More Kahunghangan: Book 2 of Hunghang Flashbacks Is Here
D. Borja's latest book will be launched at the Manila International Book Fair!
(SPOT.ph) If you've ever wondered what your daily life would look like in comics form, then you've got to check out Hunghang Flashbacks. Creator D. Borja and his colorful characters are back for more punny jokes, wisecracks, and general kahunghangan with the second book, and it's aptly titled Hunghang Flashbacks: Wow! Nice! Libro Ulit!
It began as a webseries, and now Hunghang Flashbacks (HHFB) is a force to be reckoned with—especially since each strip speaks straight to the heart. And spoiler alert: it looks like some romance is headed our way. "HHFB has always been all about shipping characters together, so I’m excited to see how readers will react once they find out who ends up with who," says Borja in an e-mail exchange with SPOT.ph.
This new angle comes with Borja's effort to flesh out the HHFB world a little more with the second book. "Originally, I planned to have the whole HHFB universe to be in stasis, to be about anything, anytime. But making them move forward and letting them grow was super fun, too," explains the artist, adding, "the strips also have a slight sense of continuity so thinking of ideas was more challenging."
Borja also says that we'll be seeing more of our resident jokester, Chubs. "In this book, Chubs will have his own character arc. No story about it, just Chubs and his toilet humor, being loud and extra," says Borja. "I got the idea while doing business in a public restroom (lol)," he adds.
The first book, Hunghang Flashbacks: Hala, Shet! Libro Na!, first came out in 2017. Borja wanted to make this one a little different though, so, "That is why this second book, although hellish to make, will be packed with more kahunghangan!" he says.
Hunghang Flashbacks: Wow! Nice! Libro Ulit! (Summit Books, 2019) will be launched at the 2019 Manila International Book Fair, happening from September 11 to 15, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Grab a copy for P350. It will be available in major bookstores nationwide.
