Get Ready, Commuters: Some Stations of the LRT-2 Will Be Closed for the Next Nine Months

(SPOT.ph) Looks like commuting from the east of Metro Manila just got a whole lot harder: The Light Rail Transit Line 2 will be partially operational for the next nine months. Trains will only be servicing the route from Cubao to Recto stations, with the Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas stations closed for repair.

"Ang mga station na walang operations na aabutin nga ng nine months, definitely, Santolan, Katipunan, at saka Anonas," said Attorney Hernando Cabrera, Light Rail Transit Authority Spokesperson, in a report by GMA News Online. The day before, on October 3, a fire had broken out between the Anonas and Katipunan stations after a power rectifier between the two stations tripped.

The parts damaged by the fire will have to be imported from abroad, explained Cabrera, which explains the long waiting time. No one was hurt but a lot of passengers have been left stranded as train operations have been suspended since the fire.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority deployed Libreng Sakay buses to ferry passengers from the Santolan Depot to Cubao on October 4. But with the entire train line looking to be unoperational this entire weekend, from October 5 to 6, too, we suggest finding alternate routes ASAP.
