(SPOT.ph) With the holidays coming up, we're sure you're all itching to get out the Metro. If you're into unplanned, but totally doable, short road trips—destination not important—then check out Los Baños's new bridge in Laguna. It's an alternative way of getting around the University of the Philippines Los Baños campus; Pick any day of the weekend for a chance to roll down your windows and drive around the massive, tree-filled complex.

The 60-meter long bridge connects Victoria M. Ela Avenue to Rambutan Road, near the campus's main field, complete with a new paved path from Rambutan Road to Pili Drive. "We have been trying to improve access to the university from both a physical and socioeconomic point of view," said Univesity of the Philippines (UP) President Danilo Concepcion during the new road system's inauguration on November 20.

Aside from the bridge, the Department of Public Works and Highways also inaugurated a brand spankin' new highway: the APEC Road. The 3.8 kilometer-long APEC road stems from Pili Drive and connects to Gov. F.T. San Luis Road in the municipality of Bay, Laguna. This new route cuts travel time between the two areas down to 10 minutes, according to Mark Villar, Department of Public Works and Highways secretary, and "started construction during the administration of President [Fidel] Ramos."
With the new paths, they're hopeful several problem areas along the Calamba-Sta. Cruz-Famy Junction Road and the Daang Maharlika Road will finally be decongested. Fingers crossed more roads and better connecting routes are headed our way!
