PSA: Meralco Bill During ECQ Can Be Paid in Four Installments
One less thing to worry about.
(SPOT.ph) Amid the uncertainty brought about by the enhanced community quarantine, here's one less thing to worry about: Meralco will implement a staggered payment for your power bill during the quarantine period.
"For example, due date mo [ay] March 16, hindi mo nabayaran and due date mo ulit April 16, hindi rin nabayaran. Hindi ito bibiglain kasi may apat na buwan ka para 'yon ay makumpleto," explained Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV. This move is in response to the directive of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). The amount accumulated from the period of March 16 until April 30 will be divided equally—without interest—across four months, according to Agnes Devanadera, chairperson of the Energy Regulatory Commission in a Manila Standard report.
At the end of the quarantine period, you'll find the amount due for your power consumption "as a separate item in the electricity bill due on those succeeding months," explained the ERC in the same report. The amount will also not have "interest, penalties, fees and other charges to help electricity consumers manage the difficult health crisis," added Devanadera.
Meralco's clients will be billed during the enhanced community quarantine period according to their three-month consumption average. Meter-reading has been discontinued for the meantime.
