Heads Up: Closure of 13 EDSA U-Turns to Start Next Week
Plus, a list of affected areas.
(SPOT.ph)Â The closure of 13 U-turn slots along EDSA officially starts on Monday, September 28, announced the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. First on the list to be closed off will be the U-turn slot right before the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 North Avenue station, near Trinoma. The rest of 13 U-turn slots will be gradually closed throughout the next three months.
The move is meant to make way for the EDSA bus carousel and the new busway system. With the bus lanes switched from the outer, "yellow lanes," to the ones in the center, "lalagyan po natin ng barrier 'yan. Sa paglalagay ng barrier, obligadong isara natin 'yong U-turns,"Â Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia told CNN Philippines.

So far, only the North Avenue U-turn slot has been given an official date for closure. The MMDA has said they will be notifying motorists ahead of the 12 other U-turn closures, as listed below:
Caloocan City
- General Tinio
- De Jesus Street / 8th Street
- General Malvar
Quezon City
- Balintawak Market, in front of BPI
- Kaingin Road, in front of Nissan
- Congressional Light Rail Station
- Corregidor intersection/Bansalangin
- In front of Quezon City Academy
- Boni Serrano Avenue, in front of Camp Crame
Makati City
- Buendia, under the Kalayaan Flyover
Pasay City
- P. Celle street
- Before Roxas Boulevard near Heritage Hotel
The new EDSA busway system is part of the Department of Transportation's overhaul of the main thoroughfare. Buses are now on the median lanes of EDSA, which will ideally speed up travel as they no longer need to drop off or pick up passengers at the curb.Â
