Hidilyn Diaz Just Lifted the Entire Nation to Our First-Ever Olympic Gold Medal
Everyone is all praises!
(SPOT.ph) The Philippines has finally struck Olympic gold for the first time ever. And who finally did it? A woman by the name of Hidilyn Diaz. You best remember that name because we'll be shouting it for the next couple of decades. Weightlifter Diaz went straight to the top of the podium for Women's 55-kilogram on July 26 at the Tokyo Olympics. She bested eight other competitors and, even better, broke a world record while she was at it.
Diaz lifted a total of 224 kilograms, breaking the previous record of Liao Qiuyun of China. This is Diaz's fourth Olympic run—and her second Olympic medal. She also brought home a shiny silver from the 2016 Rio Olympics.
If you aren't already over the moon with this news, the rest of the country is in happy shambles celebrating our first ever Olympic gold. Check out all the greetings below.
