(SPOT.ph) Most of us probably don't even know what we're having for dinner—but one guy in Batangas has it all figured out, all the way to his own retirement home. Meet Alvin Mamalayan,  a 49-year-old who, together with his family, has his sunset years prepped in the form of a clean and cozy home on a green lot in Laiya.

Check out Mamay Bino's tiny house and retirement dream in Laiya, Batangas:

Lovingly dubbed Mamay Bino (meaning Lolo Bino) in his neighborhood, the sweetly smiling quality inspector from Calamba originally bought the 600-square-meter Batangas lot in in 2012. "'Yong place namin doon medyo masikip," Alvin tells Summit Media's OG team of his original home in Calamba. "Sabi ko, hindi ko ma-imagine yung sarili ko kapag edad ko, doon ako tatanda. Wala akong gagawin d'on kundi manood ng TV."

They first put up a humble kubo on the lot, which they used while saving up for their dream home. And finally, when they were able to save up enough, they set to work building the tiny house in 2021—with YouTube and Pinterest content as their main inspiration.

The house itself is a compact seven by seven square meters. It took them just three months. Plus, with a lot of forethought and savvy planning, they spent just around P900,000 total, including materials, labor, and furnishings.

"'Ka ko, siyempre habang lumalaki 'yong bahay, lumalaki rin 'yong gastos," Alvin shares. "Eh sa 'min namin, kahit hindi masyado detalyado ang bahay, 'di ga'no kalaki, basta kumportable."

Mamay Bino and family now have a cozy home with a living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom. Their spacious lot also has an outdoor kitchen, kubos for guests, and yup, lots of running space for pets. There also plans of setting up a small pool!

Naysayers who found the long commute unreasonable were eventually won over by the peacefulness of their place, Mamay cheekily shares in the video. "'Yong mga dating nagko-comment ng 'malayo', 'nakaka-ano sa biyahe', ay pumupunta po sila dito at gustong-gusto nila mag-stay."

And for some words of wisom, Mamay Bino says: "Marami akong mga na-encounter na kung kailan talaga nag-retire, 'saka lang magsisimula, e sabi ko, 'Habang bata pa, mag-start na tayo ng savings. Para 'pag nakaipon tayo, puwede tayong magpasimula.'
