(SPOT.ph) Way back in 2012, the Bases Conversion Development Authority—a government-owned corporation mandated to transform former U.S. military bases for civilian use—proposed that part of the Clark Special Economic Zone (a former U.S. Air Force facility) be converted into community development. This was the New Clark City, which was officially started in 2016 with a groundbreaking rite led by former President Benigno Aquino III.

You may be most familiar with the New Clark City Sports Complex, which is part of the project's Phase 1A. It was completed in 2019 just in time for the Southeast Asian Games. The world-class sports hub features the Athletic Stadium with nine running tracks, the Aquatics Center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a diving pool, the Athlete's Village that can house up to 1,000 people, and pocket gardens and green spaces along a riverbank.

Once the new highway is complete, it will only take 30 minutes to get to the Clark International Airport, which opened its new passenger terminal in May. The 110,000 square-meter terminal features self-check-in booths, self-bag drop systems, all-gender restrooms, nursing stations, multi-faith prayer rooms, and an exclusive lounge for overseas Filipino workers.
