(SPOT.ph) Even with the growing dominance of esports games and the ever-advancing line of triple-A games developed for next-gen consoles, the saying "You can never go wrong with the classics" rings true, perhaps in the present day more than ever. Sure, they don't boast the best graphics or most compelling storylines (if you don't read the packaging and the manual that comes with the game), but nothing can truly beat the euphoria brought about by getting Mario all the way to the castle or finally completing a dungeon puzzle as Link.
We recently found ourselves getting immersed into the world of The Legend of Zelda, and not via the latest, critically acclaimed outing, Breath of the Wild. That's right, we've become obsessed with the classic Zelda games made for the NES (ask your dad) all the way back in the '80s. Before we get further absorbed into cracking down on the definitive Legend of Zelda timeline, we're taking the time to get you hooked on these games as well by letting you know that they're currently free on the Nintendo Switch.

Here's how to start playing Legend of Zelda games on Nintendo Switch for free:
In the Nintendo eShop on your Switch device, you can get the application Nintendo Entertainment System for free, provided that you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership—but let's face it, who among us didn't hop on the membership plan while playing Animal Crossing over the pandemic.
Nintendo Entertainment System comes with loads of NES games, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Earthbound Beginnings, Metroid, and Donkey Kong, but our main interest will always be the original The Legend of Zelda game and its sequel Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. You can load up both dungeon crawler games from the home screen of the app and relive all the nostalgic feels through the chiptune music and the janky-but-playable controls.
In the eShop, you can also download the Super Nintendo Entertainment System app for free, if you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership as well. This app has games developed for the Super NES, such as Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and (proof that they didn't just add the word "Super" in front of everything) Kirby's Dream Land 3. It also has the third game of the Zelda series, the likewise critically praised The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Yup, these two apps are your very own link to the past.
Should you not have an active plan, you can subscribe to an individual online membership plan for U.S. $3.99/month (roughly P220), U.S. $7.99/three months (roughly P450), or U.S. $19.99/year (roughly P1,120). Note that tax is not included in these prices.
