(SPOT.ph) Whether a hardcore gamer or not, everyone who either has access to the Internet or has walked past a video game store will recognize the white hooded characters of the Assassin's Creed franchise. Despite being a video game series without a central protagonist, the franchise boasts famous gaming iconography with the Assassin's white hoods and wrist blades—which are arguably up there with Link's green tunic from The Legend of Zelda, Mario's red hat, and Poké Balls as a few of the more immediately recognizable images from gaming—and they're finally making their comeback next year.
No, this isn't a shopping guide on where to get your hands on your very own white hooded cloak—although that would be sick. The white hood and hidden blades will instead be taking the spotlight in the next mainline game, Assassin's Creed Mirage. In celebration of the franchise's 15th anniversary, Ubisoft announced that the next game will be heading back to its roots and focusing on parkour and stealth once again, after years of attempting to become an action-RPG series.

Here's everything we know about Assassin's Creed Mirage and the future of the Assassin's Creed series:
Assassin's Creed Mirage tells the story of how Basim Ibn Ishaq from the previous game Assassin's Creed Valhalla went from a young street thief to Master Assassin. The game will be set in ninth-century Baghdad, during the Islamic Golden Age and prior to the events of Valhalla.
The description of Basim's journey alone brings to mind the franchise's most popular protagonist, Ezio Auditore, and how he evolved from carefree playboy to wise Master Assassin over the course of a trilogy. The game, however, is described as being more akin to the original Assassin's Creed game, where missions are focused almost entirely on stealth and strategic parkour. The game is also stated to be about only 15-20 hours long, instead of the whopping 70 hours it approximately takes to beat the prior games.
Going back to basics is somewhat of a breath of fresh air for the Assassin's Creed series as of late. The past three games have primarily focused on delivering historical, action-RPG experiences with stories revolving around a Medjay in Ancient Egypt, a mercenary in Ancient Greece, and a Norwegian raider during the Viking expansion. These stories served as the "origin" of the Assassin's Order, with the group still being primarily called the "Hidden Ones" during these eras and stealth gameplay mechanics being optional.
Additionally, Ubisoft also announced there will be a free downloadable content update for Assassin's Creed Valhalla players, entitled "The Final Chapter," which would close out the protagonist Eivor's storyline.
Now, if you thought they were done, think again. Ubisoft announced even more projects in the works, including an upcoming service platform that will launch with two Assassin's Creed games; Codename Red, which is set in feudal Japan, and Codename Hexe, which seems to be related to witch hunting during the height of the Holy Roman Empire in the 16th century. Finally, they also have in development a Netflix series and mobile game entitled Codename Jade, which is set during the Qin Dynasty of China.
Ubisoft is coming for Taylor Swift's productivity crown, that's for sure.
