Face Masks Are Now Voluntary Outdoors

(SPOT.ph) Face masks are no longer mandatory when outdoors in the Philippines. Executive Order No. 3 was announced on Monday, September 12, by Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles, who also explained the new guidelines on the "voluntary" wearing of face masks outdoors. Yup, after nearly two whole years, it looks like we can start letting go. Check out the new rules below.

Face masks now "voluntary" when outdoors in the Philippines

Executive Order No. 3 from President Bongbong Marcos allows for the "voluntary wearing of face masks in outdoor settings" and reiterates the minimum public health standards. COVID-19 is, after all, still very much present.

Places where you can choose to, or not to, wear face masks is in "open spaces and non-crowded outdoor areas with good ventilation," reads the Executive Order (EO). Still, non-vaccinated individuals, the elderly, and the immunocompromised are "strongly encouraged" to keep them on. Physical distancing is a must, wherever and whenever. 

Meanwhile, face masks should still be worn when in "indoor private, or public establishments, including in public transportation by land, air or sea, and in outdoor settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained."

The Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force will be updating the guidelines for the minimum public health standards; they may also suggest recommendations.
