(SPOT.ph) The term "confidential funds" has been floating around online, in a big "meme away the pain" type way, it seems. With the Office of Vice President having been given the greenlight for a P500-million confidential fund in 2024, the nation left in the dark as to what for (hence "confidential"), it looks like the Internet is doing what it does best and meme-ing the heck out of the latest and buzziest in things happening in our government.

We're sure you've spotted some online: a friend posting an OOTD with the caption "Confidently beautiful without confidential funds," a screencap of a convo between a seller and interested buyer, and more subtle and, sometimes, not-so-subtle quips stemming from the "confidential funds" debacle. Even Senator Risa Hontiveros replied to the statement of Vice President Sara Duterte with a popular GIF from Four Sisters and a Wedding. No need to guess which endlessly quotable line it was.
The buzz surrounds the OVP's budget for 2024, specifically the P500-million confidential fund, and the P125 million spent as confidential funds in 2022 (not officially part of the pre-approved OVP budget for that year)—with emphasis on the way the VP and office have responded to questions regarding it. Or really, a lack of a clear response. Duterte, in a statement on September 11, thanked those who helped her during the budget hearings, complete with a call-out to those who had questions about the nation's money. "Senator Risa Hontiveros, while she amuses the nation with her flair for drama, could only wish the 2022 OVP CF was accessed illegally," she said.
