Your Olivia Rodrigo Ticket Helped Fund Women’s Health in the PH

(SPOT.ph) Olivia Rodrigo’s recent GUTS concert at the Philippine Arena was extra special for several reasons: it was her first in the Philippines, the venue was her biggest to date, the tickets were priced at P1,500 regardless of section, and, most importantly, it was all for a good cause: to support women's health.

The net proceeds from the sold-out concert on October 5, 2024 will benefit Jhpiego Philippines, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving women's reproductive health services and maternal care in underserved communities across the Philippines.

To put things into perspective, here's a little math: P1,500 per ticket times a seating capacity of 55,000 at the world's largest indoor arena could potentially generate P82,500,000 in total ticket sales. Even if it's only the net proceeds going to the Jhpiego's efforts, that's still a lot of money that could make a significant difference in women's lives.

As part of her visit to the Philippines, Rodrigo took the time to stop by Jhpiego’s headquarters in Manila to learn more about the organization’s impact. She was also treated to a zine-making workshop that was facilitated by a group of teenage girls.

“I’m so stoked that all the net ticket sales from last night could be donated to @jhpiego through my fund 4 good. I got to visit the organization while I was in Manila and was so impressed by the work they are doing providing healthcare to women and girls in the Philippines. It was the most special show and the most meaningful trip. to say I’m grateful doesn’t even cut it!” Rodrigo wrote in a post.

What is Jhpiego Philippines?

Jhpiego was founded in 1973 by Dr. Theodore King, a former dean at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Initially, it was created to provide low-cost, innovative healthcare solutions for women in developing countries, with a focus on reproductive health and maternal care.

Over the years, Jhpiego has expanded its reach globally, including in the Philippines. Some key programs include the following:

SUCCESS Project

This cervical cancer elimination project targets early detection and treatment for women, with a goal to screen 50,000 Filipino women, including those living with HIV. So far, Jhpiego has already screened over 45,000 women through their SUCCESS and CLAMS projects.

Sexual Health and Empowerment (SHE)

This initiative improves sexual and reproductive health services, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected areas of the Philippines. The SHE project has reached over 6,700 women and 600 men through family planning outreach.

In addition, the project offers gender-responsive health training to more than 700 service providers, improving standards for youth-friendly care across the country.

Maternal and Child Health

Jhpiego supports maternal and child health services by training healthcare providers and improving access to postpartum family planning options in Mindanao and Luzon.

The organization's efforts also extend to developing national reproductive health guidelines, ensuring consistent, high-quality services for families across the Philippines.
