Pinoy Home Staples, But Make It Fashion: a Kulambo Polo to Keep the Mosquitos Away

(SPOT.ph) Way before we had electric mosquito repellents or the cutesy sticker version, we've all relied on the good ol' classic katol, or mosquito coil, and kulambo, or mosquito net. These were useful in warding off blood-sucking mosquitos, especially during the rainier months of the year, as this is the time when the insects emerge and dengue cases rise.

Since we're well into the wet season, local vintage shop Glorious Dias made use of the kulambo and reworked it into a nylon mesh polo. The one-of-a-kind piece is called the Kulambongga Presko Polo.

Here's where you can cop this stylish kulambo top for the rainier days ahead: 

Glorious Dias' mesh polo has a chunky stripe design with in alternating lines of teal and indigo, which gives off this Ariel-caught-in-a-net vibe. This top has a notched collar, with solid black buttons on the front, two front pockets on each side, and the most important part: The sleeves are quite long so as to keep off thirsty mosquitos from biting the upper arm.

How to style this kulambo top? Since it's veeery see-through—more than the common fishnet tops, at least—a tank top, bralette, dress, or swimwear can be worn underneath it, or wear nothing. Hey, we're not one to stop anyone who wants to #FreeTheNipples.

The Kulambongga Presko Polo is available in one size only. When laid flat, it has a width and length of 26 inches while the sleeves are 12 inches long. Similar to any Glorious Dias fashion piece, there is only one piece of the polo that's made and it will be sold at the upcoming Ya Good Community Flea Market in Seltsam, Makati City this Saturday, July 1. 

If you're not willing to fight for it at the flea market, then you can try your luck pre-ordering it. According to Glorious Dias owner Jodinand Villaflores Aguillon, they still have enough of the vintage kulambo material to make four pre-orders of the Kulambongga Presko Polo.

Glorious Dias' Kulambongga Presko Polo is priced at P2,500. The first piece is exclusively available at its Ya Good Community Flea Market on July 30, Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. For pre-orders, contact Glorious Dias on Instagram.
