Don't Worry, Motorists: Mall-Wide Sales Will Be Suspended During FIBA
To prevent heavy traffic.
(SPOT.ph) Malls along EDSA and in other areas affected by the International Basketball Federation or FIBA World Basketball Cup are temporarily barred from holding mall-wide sales from August 17 to September 10 to prevent traffic build-up during games, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said on August 9.

No mall-wide sales during FIBA
Mall-wide sales—sales wherein the entire mall, its stores and shops, and department stores offer discounted prices—will be suspended starting midnight of August 17 until midnight of September 10. This is to ensure that "all affected roads will remain passable, clean, safe, and serviceable to all types of vehicles and pedestrians during the said period," according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Memorandum Circular No. 7, s. 2023.
Pursuant to the same memorandum, road works at the following roads in Metro Manila will also be temporarily suspended during the specified period.
- EDSA Monumento to SM MOA
- Kalayaan Avenue, C5 Road to EDSA
- Along Diokno Boulevard
- P. Ocampo St., Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard
- Roxas Boulevard, NIA Road to UN Avenue
- Along Meralco Avenue
- Ortigas Avenue, EDSA to C5 Road
- EDSA North Avenue to Agham Road
The FIBA World Basketball Cup will take place from August 25 until September 10. The temporary ban on mall-wide sales starts about a week before the games. Apart from the Philippines, games will be hosted in Japan and Indonesia during the same period. The tournament serves as qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will be held in France. The top two teams from each of the Americas and Europe, and the top team from each of Africa, Asia and Oceania, will qualify.
