LOOK: This Limited-Edition Seiko Watch Was Inspired by a Philippine Cultural Treasure

(SPOT.ph) Through postcards sent over time, the Ifugao Rice Terraces shine as one of the Philippines' natural treasures. Considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World by many Filipinos, it's only fitting that the mountainous terrain's long and winding architecture and history lands itself on a limited-edition Seiko timepiece honoring its importance.

The new Seiko Limited Edition Prospex draws inspiration from the Ifugao Rice Terraces

Seiko has formerly honored Filipino cultures and traditions with its Philippine Limited Edition Prospex series launched back in 2020. The first iteration drew inspiration from the Tubbataha reefs, followed by the gravitas of the Philippine eagle, then the heat of the tropical sun. This year, you can wear the Cordillera's wonder on your wrist as Seiko pays homage to the Ifugao Rice Terraces, which will hit stores on November 21.

The 2023 Philippine Limited Edition Prospex SRPK59K1 is priced at P45,000 and lacks none when it comes to function, but carries on as a timepiece aimed at preserving the awe-inspiring site up north. Boasting automatic functions with manual winding, a power reserve of up to 41 hours, a sturdy and sleek case made from stainless steel and sapphire crystal, the watch also has a water resistance of 200m/660 ft, making it a worthy companion on your adventures.

The face cannot be missed: etched on is scalloped ridging in convergent circles reminiscent of the Ifugao Rice Terraces. Only 1,500 pieces have been made, and will surely belong on the wrists and shelves of collectors and watch enthusiasts alike.

Preserving the Ifugao Rice Terraces

Seiko partnered with Save The Ifugao Terraces Movement  or SITMo, the non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization formed by the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement. As the site faces constant threat of deterioration, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the new limited-edition watch will be donated to the non-government organization, in line with Seiko's commitment to preserve the terraces.
