But you don't have to stick with the brands your parents grew up with—you can find new and innovative ones that cater to your travel needs. We round up 10 luggage brands that might have missed your radar but shouldn't miss your next flight.

The need-to-know luggage brands for travelers

MiaMily

You don't have to have a baby to make use of MiaMily's ingenious suitcases—though it really is meant for parents with babies and toddlers. It even has a seatbelt so your little one stays secure. But you could also use the built-in seat-back for your heavy travel tote or even for yourself. (We all know how long the line at immigration can get.) Yes, like the car brand. The luxury carmaker made their first foray into luggage through a collaboration with world-famous Delsey called Peugeot Voyages. Their collection includes a carry-on and a trunk-sized check-in suitcase made with polycarbonate on the outside and recycled materials for the lining. The clamp-style mechanism makes them rainproof and they already come with two TSA locks for extra security.

Tomtoc

That allows you to easily stuff your things in one big compartment without having to divide them on either side of the bag. It has an expandable middle part so you have more space for your pasalubong. The Cubo carry-on also has a separate padded compartment in front for your laptop and other items you need to reach quickly.

Ace

Ace is another Japanese-founded brand that designs suitcases with convenience in mind. Their Teofield suitcases (from P65,846.90) can be packed in two ways: as one big compartment or in two halves down the middle. That's a helpful feature if you're carrying equipment, any irregularly shaped items, or if you just pack differently based on your mood. The front compartment has a separate lock from the main compartment, too, so that means you can securely put items in without having to open the entire bag.

HaNT by Ace

A sub-brand of Ace, HaNT—which stands for Have a Nice Time—was made by female employees who wanted to create products based on actual needs. The Hei hej (from P82,891.70) was made by women who were returning from maternity leave and knew what it was like to travel with kids. They designed it to have a top-opening zippered basket in front where you can put toys, diapers, and other things you need quick access to. If you're not a parent, you can just use it for chargers or your on-the-go beauty kit. It also has a stopper so it doesn't accidentally move on trains or at the airport. Another option is the retro-looking Metronom (from P77,565.40). It has convenient pouches already sewn into the inner lining of the luggage so you don't need to bring as many organizers.

Briggs & Riley

Business travelers might already be familiar with the American brand, Briggs & Riley. But the features of their Sympatico suitcases (from P45,990) are great even if you're not on a work trip. It has a patented compression system that increases the amount of things you can pack by 22% and it has compression panels that keep clothing flat so it minimizes wrinkling. Whether you're traveling for work or leisure, wrinkled clothes are an eyesore. The medium size of the suitcase is also expandable for those extra few outfits you have planned—just in case.

Piquadro

If you're a diehard F1 fan, then you might have noticed Piquadro on the grid—or at least, on the paddock on Daniel Ricciardo. It's the official luggage brand of the RB team, formerly known as AlphaTauri, Torro Rosso, and Minardi. The F1 rebrands are almost aligned with how Piquadro was founded. They were initially making leather goods for other Italian luxury brands before becoming one themselves.

Their Hardside Spinner (from $490; roughly P27,000) is made with metal, has leather details, and a clamp-style closure with two TSA locks. The other variant is made with lighter polycarbonate (from $345; roughly P19,000) and has a zipper closure with a TSA lock at the top. Both variants come in small, medium, and large sizes.

Primarily for outdoor travel and equipment, Montbell is a Japanese brand that also has a Wheely Duffle Bag. It has a polycarbonate back panel while the front part is made with durable Ballistic® nylon. It's made to go on adventures with you with all its pockets, heavy duty materials, and compression straps to make everything fit nicely. The smaller sizes of the wheeled duffel are great if you don't want the hassle and expense of checking in a bag while the bigger sizes are perfect for bulkier gear.
