(SPOT.ph) Comic Quest is closing shop in SM Megamall on January 5, 2025.
The beloved comics and toy collectible store made the sad announcement in a Facebook post, citing upcoming mall renovations as the reason for its departure.
As expected, the news left many patrons sad, and many recounted their fond memories of the establishment.
Among all the sad comments, what stood out was the common sentiment on Comic Quest's exceptional service. Many cited instances of the store staff going above and beyond to provide comic fans, toy collectors, and hobbyists with informed assistance when purchasing from the establishment. For many, Raquel and Jade have been part of their comic book journey. This comes as no surprise because Jade has been with the brand for over 18 years and Raquel for 27. Many patrons even refer to Raquel as their "pangalawang nanay." This only added fuel to the overall loss felt throughout the toy-collecting community.
But what really went down for Comic Quest? Is this closure permanent? SPOT.ph spoke with Comic Quest General Manager Joseph Ramos to answer some of the most burning questions running through the minds of comics and toy fans everywhere.

Here's what we know about Comic Quest's upcoming closure
This isn't goodbye, it's see you soon. In exchanges with SPOT.ph, Ramos clarified that the closure doesn't necessarily mean that patrons will no longer be able to purchase products from the store.
"We're developing a new website catering to our customers nationwide. We're also available at Lazada and Shopee, and we will increase our online inventory to include new titles and pre-orders," says Ramos
Loyal patrons may remember Comic Quest shifting to online operations during the pandemic. During this time, it closed many of its physical stores, but amid the financial strain during the pandemic, its branch at SM Megamall carried on under new management.
Though its SM Megamall branch isn't their first physical store, Comic Quest has been at SM Megamall ever since the mall opened. "Our old location was [on] the upper ground floor. And we moved near the food court in the early 2000s," adds Ramos. This explains why the store's patronage seemed to transcend generations of toy and comic book lovers.
Although most of the general public only caught wind of the closure early in December, Ramos says they have had time to prepare for it. "It was pushed back for about a year, and we did try to secure a new space or even a kiosk. Unfortunately, it was not approved."
Another common sentiment in the community centers around losing another physical store where comic and toy purchases can be made after inspection and discussions with the staff. Ramos wants to comfort patrons by clarifying that just because the store is closing doesn't mean this is the end of physical shopping through Comic Quest.
"We plan to open a new home by the 3rd quarter of next year. Nothing final yet in terms of the location, but it will be within Metro Manila," says Ramos. Until then, we'll have to shop online and be tuned in for when they pop up at various events and conventions.
And what of Raquel and Jade, the beloved women behind the counters? Ramos assures everyone that both Raquel and Jade will stay on and you'll still see them around. "They are the heartbeat of the shop itself," says Ramos.
