(SPOT.ph) Samsung’s highly anticipated Unpacked February 2022—the biannual event where the tech company unveils their latest product lineup—is right around the corner and ahead of the big event, Samsung's president and head of MX business TM Roh shared what customers can expect this time around. Spoiler alert for fans of the retailer's flagship Galaxy Note series: It looks like we won’t be seeing a new model in 2022.

Why the Samsung Note Series May Be Discontinued for Good
In a statement released today, January 21, Roh celebrated the Note’s longstanding success, its impact on the tech world, and its users' love for the smartphone series since its introduction in 2011. "Note created a legacy where a large display is now the standard," he said, noting that the S Pen was also a big part of the smartphone's popularity.
Roh also addressed customers' concern about the fact that the Galaxy Note series was not updated in 2021 following the previous year’s Galaxy Note20. "We know many of you were surprised when Samsung didn’t release a new Galaxy Note last year," he said. "You loved the unparalleled creativity and efficiency of the Galaxy Note series...You raved about the lifelike S Pen... And we haven’t forgotten about these experiences you love." Though Roh made no straightforward proclamations, it’s telling that he didn’t say anything about the Note series after that.

Instead, it looks like the focus of the Unpacked event in February is going to be the upcoming Galaxy S22. In 2021, the Galaxy S21 series more closely resembled the Note series than ever before, incorporating the S Pen into its hardware for the first time since its release—a signal that the S series could not only absorb more of the Note’s most notable features, but eventually take its place.
As far as the upcoming S series, Roh says that Samsung will "introduce you to the most noteworthy S series device we’ve ever created," a model that will bring together "the greatest experiences of our Samsung Galaxy into one ultimate device.” Again, a wink to the itroduction of the Galaxy S series as the Note's successor—but no confirmation just yet.
For now, we'll have to wait till February to know what Samsung has up their sleeve this 2022. "We’re about to rewrite the rules of industry once again," says Roh—so expect some ground-breaking reveals.
