ICYDK, Here Are Other Countries You Can Visit With a U.S. Visa

A United States visa is hard to come by. It costs a lot of money to apply, and there's a pretty high rejection rate, especially if you're a first-time applicant. But, if you do get the coveted document, you can visit more than just the U.S.'s 50 states. Unknown to most travelers—especially those just starting out—a U.S. visa on the pages of your passport is powerful. It can give you access to other countries—not just the United States. With the much-buzzed addition of Canada to the roster, it got us thinking: Where else can your American visa take you?

We listed out countries and territories where your active American visa can be used for entry. This list is based on the countries' official immigration websites and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Travel Centre's page. Just a note: This list excludes travelers transiting on a cruise ship from the U.S. Best make it a habit to always check with your destination country’s embassy before you travel.

Here are the countries and territories you can visit with an active US visa:

North America (including the Caribbean)

Anguilla

Travelers with valid visas issued by Canada, the U.S, or the United Kingdom can stay for a maximum of three months.

Antigua and Barbuda

Travelers with a visa issued by Canada, the U.S,, the United Kingdom, or a Schengen member state can obtain a visa on arrival and stay for a maximum stay of 30 days.

Belize

Travelers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, the U.S, or a Schengen Member State can stay for a maximum of 30 days.

Bermuda

Travelers with multiple re-entry visas for the United Kingdom, U.S, or Canada can enter visa-free, granted the visas to the aforementioned countries must still be valid for 45 days after a visitor's stay.

Canada

Travelers who have held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years or are currently holding a valid United States non-immigrant visa can apply for the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program.

Cuba

Travelers with visas issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, the U.S., or an EU Member State can enter visa-free. However, they must also apply for a Tourist Card, a.k.a., Tarjeta del Turista, which is issued to visitors traveling as tourists. 

Dominican Republic

Travelers with visas issued by Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, USA, United Kingdom, or a Schengen Member State traveling as tourists for a maximum stay of 90 days.

El Salvador

Travelers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the U.S., or a Schengen Member State can stay visa-free in El Salvador, but they must still apply for a Tourist Card upon arrival, which costs U.S. $10.

Guatemala

Travelers with a valid visa issued by Canada, Mexico, the U.S., or a Schengen Member State can stay for a maximum of 90 days.

Honduras

Travelers with a valid visa issued by Canada, the United States, or a Schengen member state can apply for a visa on arrival.

Mexico

Travelers with a valid multiple-entry visa issued by Canada, the U.S., Japan, the United Kingdom, or any member of the Schengen Area can stay for a maximum of 180 days as long as the visa is valid during their entire stay in Mexico.

Nicaragua

Philippine passport holders can apply for a visa on arrival for a fee of U.S. $50. However, with a valid U.S. visa, they’ll only have to pay a tourist card which costs US $10.

Panama

Travelers with a multiple entry visa issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the USA, the United Kingdom, or an EU Member state can stay for 90 days. They must also have proof of sufficient funds of at least US $ 500 per person to cover the costs of their stay.

Turks and Caicos

Travelers with a visa issued by Canada, the United Kingdom, or the U.S. can stay for a maximum stay of 90 days.

Europe and Asia (the Middle East)

Albania

Travelers with a valid multiple-entry U.S. or United Kingdom visa, which has been previously used, can enter Albania visa-free.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Travelers with a multiple-entry visa issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Monaco, Romania, the USA, or a Schengen Member State can stay for a maximum of 30 days. Note: only a total of 90 days can be granted within six months.

Georgia

United States visa holders can enter Georgia without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period.

Montenegro

Passengers with a U.S. visa may enter, pass through the territory, and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days without a Montenegro visa.

Turkey/Türkiye

US visa holders can apply for an e-Visa, provided they will stay only for a maximum of 30 days.

Serbia

Travelers with a visa issued by Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the U.S., or a European Economic Area Member State can stay for a maximum of 90 days.

Qatar

Travelers with a valid Schengen, US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand visa can apply for an electronic travel authorization, with a fee of 100 QAR, which is valid for a stay of up to 30 days from the date of issue.

United States Territories

The following countries are territories of the United States, so U.S. visa policy and rules will apply:

• American Samoa 
• Guam
• Northern Mariana Islands
• Puerto Rico
• U.S. Virgin Islands
