Manila Named World’s Leading City Destination for the First Time Ever
Besting cities like London, New York City, and Sydney.
(SPOT.ph) The Philippines clinching awards for the best beaches in the world? Been there, done that. But Manila earning recognition as the world’s leading city destination? Now that's new.
For the first time ever, Manila has been named the “World’s Leading City Destination” at the 30th World Travel Awards (WTA), beating 22 nominees including renowned cities like London, New York City, and Sydney. Previous winners of this category were Saint Petersburg, Russia and Porto, Portugal in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
The Philippines maintained its title as the World’s Leading Dive Destination and the World’s Leading Beach Destination for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, the World’s Leading Dive Resort went to Amanpulo in Palawan.
In addition, the Philippines is also one of the five countries to receive the inaugural Global Tourism Resilience Award in recognition of its “global leadership, pioneering vision and innovation to overcome critical challenges and adversity” that will “serve as benchmarks for best practices in tourism resilience” as per the World Travel Awards.

The Philippines shines at the World Travel Awards 2023 with the following recognitions:
- World’s Leading Beach Destination – Philippines
- World’s Leading Casino Resort – City of Dreams Manila
- World’s Leading City Destination – Manila
- World’s Leading Dive Destination – Philippines
- World’s Leading Dive Resort – Amanpulo
- World’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort – City of Dreams Manila
This year's awarding ceremony was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on December 1.
Considered as the Oscars of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards is a London-based organization that recognizes outstanding achievements in the fields of travel, tourism, and hospitality industries on national, regional and global scales since it was founded in 1993.
