Philippines Hailed Asia's Leading Dive Destination for the Fifth Time
We're in the running for the world title.
(SPOT.ph) The 2023 World Travel Awards announced on the evening of September 6 that the Philippines is Asia's Leading Dive Destination. Winners within Asia and Oceania were crowned in a red carpet ceremony at the GEM Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
What to know about World Travel Awards' citation for Asia's Leading Dive Destination:
"The Philippines’ fifth consecutive win as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination further affirms the unparalleled beauty and mega-biodiversity of our country loved by divers and tourists all over the world. This is a testament to the Philippines' commitment to sustainable tourism development and our strengthened collaboration with tourism stakeholders. From our ridges to our reefs, you will never run out of reasons to Love the Philippines!," Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said during the ceremony.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Philippines has been recognized as Asia's Leading Dive Destination, which puts us in the running for the world title. We were also previously the title holder for Asia's Leading Beach Destination, a title we held on to in 2013, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022--until Indonesia bagged the win for this year. In 2022, we also won the World's Leading Beach Destination.
The Philippines was also the World's Leading Dive Destination in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. The date has yet to be determined for the announcement for worldwide recognition, but the Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2023 usually happens sometime in November or December.
