Hong Kong Disneyland Is Getting a New Marvel-Themed Attraction

(SPOT.ph) You must admit no trip to Hong Kong is complete without visiting Hong Kong Disneyland. But if you think you've seen everything the park has got to offer, you might want to check again.

Hong Kong Disneyland is not showing any signs of slowing down its massive multi-year expansion. On the heels of its successful World of Frozen opening in 2023 and the recently concluded limited-time-only summer Marvel shows, the park is adding more attractions to its Marvel-themed space in Tomorrowland—this time for good. Here's what's in store for Marvel fans in Hong Kong Disneyland.

"The universe of Marvel stories continues at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort," said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. Every two years, Disney hosts the D23 event to update fans on all the new things the brand is dropping in the years to come. For 2024, D'Amaro announced the latest slew of Marvel-themed attractions set to debut in Disney parks worldwide. 

One that caught our eye in particular is the latest Spider-Man attraction slated to hit Hong Kong Disneyland. 

Disney is still mum on the exact details of the ride. But based on its initial concept art, the ride appears to involve Spider-Man saving an elevator full of passengers from Doc Ock's grasp. Could this finally be Hong Kong Disneyland's variation on the Tower of Terror attraction, where guests are hurtled up and down an elevator-style lift? We're keeping our fingers crossed. 

What we do know for now is the ride's story. According to Disney, the new ride follows Peter Parker's adventure as an intern at Stark Industries and his involvement in Stark Expo, a showcase of Stark Industries' newest inventions and technologies. During the expo, Peter presents the company's latest breakthrough—surely everything goes off without a hitch, right? Well, not exactly. One of his most formidable enemies wreaks havoc at the scene, and Spider-Man now has to protect the brand-new tech and save all the guests caught in the crossfire. 

Additionally, although no final dates were announced about when the ride would be open to the public, D'Amaro assures fans that this ride is coming soon, saying, "We have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: We are doing everything you’ve heard here tonight." 

This new ride marks the third major addition to Hong Kong Disneyland's slew of immersive Marvel experiences which include the Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! rides. There will also be new entertainment, shopping, and dining offerings in the expanded Marvel-themed area that fans of the franchise can be excited about. 

Along with this Spider-Man ride, D'Amaro also teased an upcoming Spider-Man roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland, which he says is a completely different experience from the one in Hong Kong.
