(SPOT.ph) There’s nothing like a quick weekend getaway. Even though it's only been a week since the long holiday break, we’re always ready for a vacay—and admit it: you won’t say no to a seaside escape either. La Union, which is just a few hours’ drive from Metro Manila, has always been a popular pick. If you’re planning to spend a night or two with family or friends in Elyu, then you’ll be happy to find this gem of a place you can book for a steal: Motel Mambo, whose hotelier is none other than Rico Blanco—yes, the OPM legend himself.
Motel Mambo in La Union features loft-style rooms perfect for group getaways:
If you're heading to La Union with friends, then Motel Mambo is a good choice for a base. Although it's one of Surf Town's newer accommodations, the hotel enjoys a convenient location in Port San Juan, a food market that also hosts live music and other events. (It's also one of Blanco's other businesses in La Union.)
Inside, the mod-style interiors—clean lines, geometric shapes, minimalist decor, and pops of bright color—offer an eye-catching backdrop for Instagram snaps. Each room is well-lit and spacious, with its own sala, bathroom, and loft area.
You also can't beat the prices; the Family Loft Room, which has two queen beds and three single beds to accommodate up to seven people, is P6,880 per night. (That's less than P1,000 per head for a group of seven, BTW.) And if you're only taking a friend or two on vacation? Book the Couple Loft Room instead for P3,860 per night. It has one queen bed but can host a maximum of three guests.
As to be expected, this colorful hotel is musician-approved. We’re not even just talking about Blanco, whose iconic OPM career has spanned decades and numerous hit tunes, and is also giving birth to an upcoming musical. If you’re a fan, then you’ve probably seen it: Last weekend, Blanco invited a couple of his industry friends to spend time at Motel Mambo in La Union. His uber-talented guest list included BINI’s Maloi, Ben&Ben’s Pat Lasaten and Agnes Reoma, Over October’s Joshua Caleb Lua, Zild Benitez, Blaster Silonga, ischi, and photographer Shaira Luna.
“This La Union hotel has been a dream that took me 8 years to fulfill,” the songwriter of "214" and "Antukin" wrote on Instagram. “I’m so blessed and thankful to have talented, hardworking and fun artist friends taking a much deserved break, unwinding and recharging with me on my first time back since our doors officially opened.”
