A Harry Potter Studio Tour Is Opening in Shanghai in 2027

With a new Harry Potter series on Max coming out, and a whole slew of Harry Potter theme parks and experiences, it looks like the Hogwarts magic is here to stay. Speaking of Harry Potter-themed experiences, Potterheads, get ready—there’s a brand-new Harry Potter-themed adventure brewing in Asia!

Word just dropped that Shanghai, China is set to welcome its very own Warner Bros. The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour. That’s right, no need to fly all the way to Tokyo to walk through Hogwarts anymore. Come 2027, the magic gets a little closer to home.

Here's what we know so far about the Harry Potter Studio Tour Shanghai:

Tentatively named the Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai), this new park will let visitors embark on a behind-the-scenes exploration of the movie so that a new generation of Potterheads can understand the magical world of Harry Potter—just like its London and Tokyo counterparts. 

The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai) spans a total area of 53,000 square meters, comprising both indoor and outdoor spaces. Here, visitors can interact with the authentic costumes and props used in the movie, experience iconic scenes through immersive technology, and learn all about how the world-famous novel series was brought to life for the big screen. 

This exciting new development was announced by both Warner Bros. Discovery Group and their Chinese partner, Jinjiang International Group (JIG), on their official WeChat pages.

The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai) will be housed within JIG's Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park—Shanghai's first large-scale professional amusement park.

But before you jet off to Shanghai to experience Jinjiang Amusement Park, you should know the park has been closed since January as it is undergoing major renovation work, on top of the development of The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai).

In a statement regarding the renovations, Jinjiang International Group explains that the renovation of Shanghai Jinjiang Amusement Park and the subsequent opening of the Harry Potter Studio Tour were done to bring more tourists from all over China and the world, positioning Shanghai as a global tourism and cultural hub. 

Jinjiang Amusement Park is expected to reopen in 2027, just in time for the expected completion of The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai). This new project is the first of its kind to debut in China and one of Warner Bros. Discovery Group's first global experience businesses since launching its Global Experience Division last year. 

As of writing, construction of The Harry Potter Studio Tour (Shanghai) hasn't kicked off just yet. According to Jinjiang,  the project is currently in the regulatory approval stage. But who knows, with a bit of swish-and-flick of the wand, maybe the paperwork will magically appear.
