(SPOT.ph) Palawan is no stranger to accolades from around the world for its pristine beaches and secluded islands. In June, Condé Nast Traveler named Hidden Beach in El Nido among the 30 Best Beaches in the World. “It’s not quite so hidden anymore,” wrote Lizzie Pook, “but the beach still makes its mark as one of the world’s best.” She went on to mention imposing limestone cliffs and “startlingly bone-white sand.” Seems the travel magazine’s readers are big fans of Palawan, too—three of the island’s resorts have made it onto the Condé Nast Traveler list of The Top 30 Resorts in Asia: Reader’s Choice Awards 2020, published on October 6.
The three local holiday destinations that made it on the list are all by El Nido Resorts: Apulit Island took 18th place, Lagen Island got 23rd place, and Pangulasian Island came in at number 25. All three resorts are notable for their environmentally sustainable practices—waste-management systems that use native reed bed filters, water conservation efforts that incorporate a rainwater catchment system, low-impact guest experiences—besides providing employment for local residents.
The resorts have earned accolades before, among them: Favorite Beach Resorts in the World in 2017, World’s Best Beach Hotel in the World Boutique Hotel Awards 2016; Best Hidden Gem in the SpaFinder Wellness Travel Awards 2016; and Asia’s Responsible Tourism Award in the World Travel Awards 2014.
Currently only Pangulasian is open to guests among the three resorts; “travel bubbles” that ensure that contact is limited among guests are available until December.
