Iloilo's Dinagyang Festival Goes Virtual for 2021
You can enjoy the show from home.
(SPOT.ph) The past year has forced us to do almost everything online and virtually, from ordering food to attending meetings. And with the threat of COVID-19 still around, even much-awaited big festivals have no choice but shift to the digital sphere. Iloilo City's Dinagyang Festival, which happens every fourth Sunday of January in honor of the Sto. Niño, is canceling their crowd-drawing street performances. Instead, they're featuring events that can be viewed through the Festive Walk Iloilo Facebook page.
You can watch these 2021 Dinagyang Festival events online:
Dinagyang Warrior Fashion Show
January 23, 8 p.m.
The Dinagyang Festival is known for its street parade where Dinagyang warrior dancers move to the loud beat of the drums. Instead of this annual Mardi Gras-like celebration, a fashion show of Dinagyang warrior costumes is happening on a 41-meter runway at the Festive Walk Parade. Dinagyang tribes are also dancing onstage during the fashion show.
January 24, 5 p.m.
To cap off the Dinagyang Festival weekend, a dazzling light show is set to light up the night sky. The event is taking place at Park Square.
For Iloilo residents, the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park is geared up to accept a sizable crowd. Cashless payment options are encouraged, and a digital contact tracing scheme will be implemented through QR codes in all entrances.
